Top 10 Roses

Rosa Madame Alfred Carriere romps around our pond

1 Golden Gate Rose

Climber

Rich yellow, fading to lemon, Golden Gate offers profusion, perfection and semi-evergreen foliage. Scented and won’t stop flowering.

2 Rambling Rector

Rambler

Clear white with a yellow eye, Rambling Rector is a classic. It will romp up a tree or garland a wall in its hanging tresses in no time.

3 Albertine

Climber

There is no better sight in early June than the strawberry buds and salmon pink blooms of Albertine. Sadly it only flowers once.

4 Korresia

Floribunda Rose

We don’t want to spend time weeding under shrub roses but Korresia’s constant brilliant yellow blooms make it an exception.

5 Climbing Iceberg

Climber

Available as a climber or floribunda rose, Iceberg cloaks the wall of our pond. A most floriferous rose, it just keeps going.

6 White Star

Shrub and Climber

Very stiff-stemmed for a climber and yet we have it on a bower, an arch and railings. Its glossy foliage copes with sun and partial shade and laughs off pests

7 Dublin Bay

Climber

We’ve borrowed this from our neighbours’ garden. Glossy foliage, a rich crimson colour and a succession of flowers.

8 Gertrude Jekyll

English Rose

This is the one we don’t own but want to. David Austin’s finest has a glorious scent and is named after the UK’s most influential gardener – doing justice to her reputation.

9 Mme Alfred Carriere

Climber

Blowsy off-white blooms that fade to a hint of apricot.  A May-June flush is added to through the summer. A vigorous, almost thornless climber that will survive on a north wall.

10 Scepter'd Isle

English Rose

Clear pale pink blooms come from deeper red buds. The embellished folds at the flower’s centre hint at its origins as a David Austin Rose. Still flowering in September.
